The DK1 has three key-selectable speed modes: Low (5 mph), Medium (7.5 mph), and High (15.5 mph). The speed mode is selected by the parent using the key — the child cannot change it without the key. This means you set an appropriate ceiling for your child's current skill level and physically control when they advance to the next mode. The DK1 is recommended for ages 3-10.

The DK1's 36V 4Ah lithium battery is rated for 800 charge cycles before capacity drops to 80%. One cycle is a full charge from empty. If you charge the battery twice a week, 800 cycles represents approximately 8 years of use. Budget kids' bikes often use unrated cells that degrade noticeably within the first year. The 800-cycle rating means the DK1 battery will outlast your child's use of the bike.

The DK1 travels up to 13.7 miles per charge in optimal conditions. For most children's use — backyard and driveway sessions — this is 1-2 hours of continuous riding. Charge time from empty is 4-5 hours. The battery indicator shows remaining charge at all times so you can plan sessions.
